Exciting New Culinary Classes at the Art Center
The 2013 summer culinary program in Kay's Kitchen at the Oliver Art Center begins Monday, May 20th and runs through mid-October.

New Dinner Classes begin in June

2013 is shaping up to be another busy summer for Chef Jim and the On The Porch crew.  First is the big double launching of his fourth cookbook on Saturday, May 25 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Brilliant Books in downtown Traverse City and Sunday, May 26 from noon to 3 p.m. at Crystal Crate and Cargo.  The cookbook is titled "Simple Meals on the Porch" and features easy and casual "one-dish" meals.   The entire book is centered on dishes that are perfect when you want a casual one or two-course meal but something still elegant enough for company.  Simplicity is the key here.  Most of the main dishes make a "one-pot" meal that will keep in the refrigerator for at least a day or two.  "Simple Meals on the Porch" is for anyone who likes to prepare wonderful dishes meant to be shared with friends and family but don't necessarily like to spend hours in the kitchen.  See the "Cookbooks" tab on this website for more information.

Popular Chef Keil Moshier is returning to Kay's Kitchen to kick-off the 2013 summer Culinary Program on May 20th.  Chef Keil will be sharing recipes and techniques for classic American diner foods, but, as always, with a Chef Keil twist.  Many of these recipes are featured in his exciting new Traverse City restaurant, Bay Town Kitchen.  The season continues with a series of fish/seafood classes by Joe Muer, owner of several restaurants in Michigan, including one of Detroit's premier seafood restaurants; a pastry class by Sleeping Bear Inn's head chef Kerry Buzzell; a knife skills class by knife expert Ed Bartush; a class featuring dishes from India by Pat Sheafor; and of course Chef Jim will be teaching exciting new classes every month.  Check out the schedule under the "Art Center Classes" tab on this website.  The schedule is also posted on the Oliver Art Center's website at www.oliverartcenterfrankfort.org where you can now enroll on-line.

In addition to the classes at the Art Center, Chef Jim will be teaching a full dinner class one evening a month in private homes around the Frankfort area.  Dinner classes start in June and run through September.  The menus and schedule for the dinner classes can be found under the "Dinner Classes" page on this website.  Enrollments are now open for the dinner classes.  Reserving your seat early is not a bad idea since these classes fill up fast.  Just go to the "Dinner Classes" page on this website, select the class/classes you desire, then go to the "Enroll/Feedback" page and fill out the form.

Here's to another great season of cooking!
